It’s inspiring, especially at this time of year, to see and experience the creative efforts of people who exhibit at arts and crafts fairs across the country. I recently strolled through Fountain Festival of Arts and Crafts in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
Since the 1974 inaugural festival, the event has grown from about 60 to more than 500 artists and artisans from all over the world who display their original works of fine art, sculptures, paintings, clothing, jewelry, and crafts in every price range. The juried event attracts approximately 250,000 people from across the country and around the world each year.

When you take a moment to stop and talk with the artists, you find that they are able to share their creativity with the world because they have established a structure or system that helps them realize their vision. Structure helps you bring your ideas into reality. At the same time, it can also allow you the flexibility to make adjustments and change your perspective as you move forward. When you think about it, there is structure everywhere. The artistic process provides an opportunity to learn to work within structures, to manage them, and to explore multiple answers and ways of doing something. And although the ideas you generate can vary considerably, all of them might be of equal value.
